Nokia N9 gets Android ICS before most android Phones! (HowTo video inside)

For the many who have clamored for an Android running Nokia Phone, well their wish has been granted thanks to dedicated android modders who have successfully transferred Android latest OS (ICS: Ice Cream Sandwich) to Nokia's MeeGo running N9.

Android on N9:

This is the first release, so a few features like auto-rotation, battery status and camera are still missing but the essential features like making calls, texts, data, WiFi, Bluetooth are all working fine.
here's a list of what's working:
- dualboot kernel (without reflashing), ability to choose OS after power on.
- 3D drivers, OpenGL
- hwrotation (portrait mode only, accelerometer HAL doesn't work)
- touchscreen (multitouch)
- hw buttons (volume, power)
- ECI accessory (headset buttons)
- USB networking
- lcd off in sleep mode
- alarm driver, RTC
- mounting MyDocs as "SDCard" [realized; NOT FIXED, but HACK EXISTS]
- basic video decoding (sw) and playback, youtube (choppy)
- basic CellMo functionality: network registration, USSD, SMS, data (GPRS/EDGE/3G), signaling. Actually, ofono/ofono-ril stack is used: all things that it able to do on the n900.
- bluetooth (scanning, can pair devices. I didn't test deeper).
- charging (note: without any notification in UI)
- sensors: accelerometer
- audio: playback (audio routing to: loudspeaker, headset or earpiece)
- lights HAL (lcd brightness)
- root access (via adb shell; su/Superuser.apk)

Since this is a first release, the next one should bring about more features. So if you fancy what it would be like to have an android OS on Nokia hardware, you can try it out.

There's no worry are losing your Meego OS either as it is possible to install this android on a seperate partition there by making it possible to dual boot between both OSes, now how cool is that (Nokia: first to make dual boot Phone! though there was the N900 before this).

i wouldn't be trying this on my N9 for 2 reasons
1. i just got it and
2. I prefer MeeGo

I just wish they would have spent time on making a kind of simulator for the N9 to make it possible to play all android, now that would have been a better investment.

**But the Android OS does look real good on N9, then again any OS you put on the N9 would make it look good**

I wouldn't be posting any link on how or where to get this, because I don't condone it! but if you are willing enough to have this on your N9, you might as well just search for "Nitroid N9"... GOOD LUCK!
