Exclusive Leaked Photo: Nokia MeeGo 41MP PureView WaterProof Device

I just got this image from an undisclosed source at Nokia's Research/Development Lab in Mexico, that Nokia has finished its working on its quad core CPU, 2GB RAM, 64GB storage space, 4.6inch screen, 41MP PureView Camera, MeeGo-running, Water-Proof and Shock-Proof device and it is set to debut within a month! and will go on sale in the first week of May.

This device is codenamed the "Nokia April"

My experience pre-ordering the Nokia Lumia 900

On Friday, March 30th the Nokia Lumia 900 became available for pre-order for new and existing At&t customers, with a scheduled delivery of between Wednesday April 4th and Friday 6th. If you don't pre-order you can still get it start online or in stores starting Sunday, April 8th.

So yesterday, I stopped by my locat At&t store with the intentions of pre-ordering this device so I could get it earlier, but what I encountered at the store was unbelievable, the At&t rep informed me that their pre-ordering system was really busy and apparently a lot of At&t reps were booking pre-orders around the nation, that got me surprised but I tried to hide how excited I was about this. I ended up not being able to get my pre-order going as the system was still overwhelmed with requests, so the rep told me to stop by tomorrow (that's today) and he also added 1,500 rollover minutes to my At&t account for any inconveniences this had caused (how NICE).

While I was at the store however, I did get a chance to play with a Lumia 900, it wasn't on display yet, but the Manager was kind enough to let me play with his, I have already seen the Lumia 900 (at CES) but got limited interaction with it, so this was sort of my first mini hands on.
Not going to talk much about the hands on (that's for another post) butI would say this, I am looking forward to using the blazing fast internet (4G LTE) and experiencing video HD streaming with Netflix and making video calls on Tango (Tango is a cross platform video calling app).

Since, I had my N9 with me, I quickly noticed how the Lumia 900 was a bloated N9, same industrial design, but what I like most about the hardware is that Nokia finally decided to get rid of the USB door, I never saw the use of it, it is such an inconvenience, always having to open it every time you needed to charge of connect your phone to your PC.

here are a couple of screenshots I took comparing the Lumia 900 and N9:

Anyway, I went back today and successfully pre-ordered the Cyan Lumia 900, and I could get it as early as the 4th, at the most on Friday the 6th.
I did get a confirmation email, though I hear some people got emails saying the device was on back order.

What was your pre-order experience like? if you have any

Video: SwipeUnlock (MeeGo style unlock) for Nokia N8/Belle devices

You can now use the MeeGo style "swipe to unlock" feature on your Nokia belle devices thanks to SwipeUnlock app from the Nokia Store.

Though it doesn't have the FULL features as seen on the N9, it is impressive nonetheless. you can choose to swipe horizontally or vertically (but not both ways at the same time), and the swipe unlock app doesn't work with the unlock button on the side of your N8, you will have to first press the "menu" button to use it.

It does feature push notifications which really look cool, kudos to the developer of this app Alexander Fokin for a job well done.

See the video Demo:

You can get this MeeGo style unlock feature from the Nokia Store for $1.99

Leaked screenshots of Nokia Carla? Shows New Browser/Keyboard

Nokia Carla is supposed to be the next major update to Symbian (Just like Belle), unfortunately it will not be available to 1st generation symbian^3 devices (N8 E7 C7 C6-01) due to hardware restrictions (low processor and low ROM/RAM capacity)

But rather you will see it on new Belle devices (701 603 700).
Nokia Carla already features on the Nokia 808 PureView, though many say that is Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1 (FP1) or Feature Pack 2 (FP2), as the Belle shown on the 808 in the many hands on youtube videos of it looks quite refreshed.

There's no official word from Nokia on the state or ETA for Nokia Carla, but everyday we get closer to it.

Nokianesia (an Indonesia nokia blog site) recently uploaded images it says are the UI screenshots for Nokia Carla:

The Nokia Carla is said to feature a new browser, new music player and new QWERTY keyboard.

The new music player UI looks to borrow some features from the N9 music player UI, see the similarities between the them:

There's also a huge change/improvement in the QWERTY (portrait) keyboard, as you can see the buttons are now larger and spaced too, here's the current keyboard on the Nokia Belle against this new one:

It's also said that the Nokia Carla will now use "swipe to unlock" feature already used on N9.

What other features will you like to see on Nokia Carla??

Video: Word Teaser for Symbian and MeeGo devices (N8 E7 C7 N9)

Here's another fun word-game for Symbian and MeeGo, from the same guys that brought you Word tiles. Word teaser is another unique nice and fun word game.
It presents you with random letters, letters that equal points (just like in scrabble) and the aim is to form a word from those letters, the points represented from those letters are then tallied up and your score is awarded.
You are timed, but you get more time based on the words you form and the points awarded.

See the demo:

The Word teaser is available for both Symbian and MeeGo devices.

you can get it HERE

Video: Peak Gold for Nokia N9 and Nokia Belle Devices

If you ever played "Gold miner" a classic PC game #IMO, then you will love "Peak Gold" for Nokia N9.
The aim of the game is to grab moving gold nuggets and later gems and diamonds off of the moving escalator.
The graphics are really nice and the controls are superb, and its a game you would love to play over and over again.

Finish a level just in time by getting enough gold for that level and move lower (NOT higher) down the mine, if you fail to get enough gold for that level before the time expires you lose! and get to start all over again

See it:

Peak Gold is Free.

you can get it for your Nokia N9 from the Nokia Store HERE

if you use the Nokia N8 or any Nokia Belle device, you can download it for free HERE

3 Things "SmokedByWindows" should learn from Nokia's "Lumia Chanllenge"

So Nokia just showed Microsoft and its SmokedByWindows challenge how it's really done, with the same concept of challenging unsuspecting iPhone or android users to a race of who's got the faster phone.

Like the SmokedByWindows challenge, a windows phone users and someone with an iPhone, android or any other phone for that matter, they perform different tasks to see who can do it faster, tasks like who can snapping and uploading a pic on Facebook the fastest, check weather the fastest, who's faster in searching and lots more.

Nokia Lumia Challenge as it is conveniently called went down in the UK on February 25th of this year, and just look at how much fun they are having...

While here in the US, Microsoft's original version of the challenge "SmokedByWindows" is currently being sued. So where did "smokedByWindows" go wrong?

First,  Instead of creating a stage for the challenge, it should be done randomly, like bumping into someone on a bus, at a mall or at the park.. this makes it more natural, rather than creating a place and time, this gets people prepared and expectations are not as high when they already know what to expect.

Secondly, Keep the challenge period short, Nokia's Lumia Challenge was a one day thing, while "SmokedByWindows" looked like it was going on forever (even though it obviously isn't), and eventually everyone just called it a publicity stunt.

Lastly, There should be Little or no incentives This was pretty much the biggest mistake the "SmokedByWindows" team made and that's announce a huge incentive ($1000 really?!!) for those who won the challenge, and in this economy it was only a matter of time before someone sued and they did! and now it's not fun anymore, the whole fiasco about claims from users of cheating by windows staff just blurred out the actual message behind the challenge.
Nokia offered £10 ($13)in its Lumia challenge, now think about it if you walked up to a stranger and asked him to do the challenge and told him that there was a $1000 prize if he won, he would do the challenge but pay no attention to it but rather have his mind set on winning the $1000 prize, compared to if you told him it was a $13 prize, he would do it but not because of the $13 but out of curiosity of what windows phone can do.
After all, the the whole idea behind it was never to reward people but to make them aware of  what windows phone had to offer and that's speed on a different UI with ease of use.

Life they say, is about learning from our mistakes!

Nokia Drive 2.0 comes with live traffic updates (every 2 mins)

new update Nokia Drive 2.0 will now be able to give you live updates on traffic conditions along your route, a feature known as "Nokia Commute"

“The service currently cover 1,500 KM of roads and is based on data collected by other Nokia Maps users acting as ‘traffic probes’ and will show up as colour coded roads, with green for free flowing traffic, yellow for sluggish traffic and red for heavy traffic and will be refreshed every 2 minutes.”
This feature is currently available in India with plans to spread across the globe

Nokia Drive is part of Nokia's Nav Apps as a voice over navigation system that allows you to navigate both online and offline

Nokia working on PureView for its Windows Phones

I guess it was inevitable that Nokia would introduce its PureView technology into its line of Windows Phones, not the current Lumia devices, but this latest job post by Nokia confirms they are indeed working on Windows Phone to carry this unique camera imaging technology.

The job is for a chance to join Nokia's windows phone imaging team in Finland

The job description:
"Have you heard of Nokia 808 PureView? Do you want to take part in creating the next chapter in Nokia's Windows Phone devices? Do you want to be a part of a team in charge of developing the next big thing related to imaging and camera? If yes, this is your opportunity to join our world-class team! "

Job listing :

In conclusion, I don't think we will see any 41MP windows phone till WP8 Apollo is released, this is the mobile OS where Nokia will be allowed to do as much tweaking asthey so wish, giving them a chance to fully implement PureView into their windows phones, something I am pretty sure they were held back on regarding WP7.5.

So would you get the Nokia 808 PureView or wait for its Windows Phone counterpart?

Nokia Lumia 900 accessories now available from At&t; and Amazon

If you are like me then you probably saw a few hands on/unboxing videos on the at&t Lumia 900 and noticed that it doesn't come with a casing like the N9 and Lumia 800 do.

So instinctively I started searching for Nokia original cases for the phone.

Amazon has a few, though they are not original Nokia silicone cases that I would prefer, but they are cheap compared to what At&t is offering, they cost between $5 and $15 for the ones I saw.
At&t offers silicone casings and bumpers too, with the option to choose whatever color of your choice (black, cyan pink green), but they are pricey at $20

you can see Amazon's range of Lumia 900 accessories HERE.

At&t also has their own stash which you can check out HERE

unfortunately I cannot find a white casing anywhere, hopefully it should eventually come out sooner than later!

Nokia Moph: Closer to Reality

Nokia Morph is a phone that can change shape according to the user's preferences, sounds like something out of a Sci-Fi flick doesn't it? well, this is no Star Trek or "back to the future" gimic, this is real life.

Nokia has managed (thanks to nano-technology) to make a phone that can bend and twist to any shape of form:

Here's a video explanation:

Well now that you see it, you have got to believe it. Just the other day we saw Nokia file patent for it's vibrating tattoo, now this; I tell you those guys over at Nokia's R&D labs don't get any sleep.
